Journeying along The Petalled Path

I’m Nix and I work from home based in West Sussex. I love flowers, both giving and receiving, and for many years I harboured a secret desire to be a florist. After the pandemic I decided now was the time to make a change, so after twenty-seven years as a secondary school teacher I embarked on a career change. It has been the most joyful and positive decision. I’ve taken several floristry courses (Flourish Sussex and Covent Garden Academy of Flowers) and I’ve loved learning new techniques and styles.

I trained as an RE teacher so for many years I have taught about meaningful moments: birth, coming of age, marriage and death, and I have a deep understanding of the significance these events carry. I now want to combine that with the importance that flowers play at these occasions, whether it’s flowers to celebrate a birth, a bridal bouquet or farewell flowers to mark the passing of a loved one.

My style is garden style – bringing the outside in, and where possible I like to include flowers that carry a personal connection. I aim to use sustainable technologies and British, locally-grown flowers where I can, seasons allowing.

I got married back in the 1990s when floristry was more traditional and formal, but even then I loved walking around the flower market in London, and the smell of some of the flowers at my own wedding still evoke very happy memories. That is the power of flowers!
